SpiderBot Delta 3D Printer

Hey fellow printers,

Found this one through the Simplify3D forum. The program/company is called topolabs. It is not realesed yet, but apperantly they aim to print more complex structures in one go, instead of layer by layer. Attached links are a blog post (with video) and the company website.

      Snap, it irritates me then that i did not think about it ;-)
      The question is simple: do we have to 'slice' only in horizontal layers...

      Hej printers,

      interesting approach. As the nozzles bottom surface is not Zero, it will only work with slightly inclined surfaces. For example, a layer height of 0.1mm on the "mountain side" of a 45° inclined surface will be a 1.1mm height on the "valley side" with a typical nozzle bottom surface diameter of 1mm. So you still get - even higher - steps.

      For the shown application of different colour structures on an uneven surface, it will be a great simplification though, worth to be tested with our futurous double head spiderbots.

      It looks like a technologie crying for delta printers, as the z-axis-movement ist so simple compared to cartesian printers, especially when they move the whole table up and down.

      B.t.w. I am very irritated of the bad surface they print in both shown printouts, showing every single string and many gaps. We spiderbotters can do better, can't we?

      Honestly, I'v have different results, mostly depending on the slicer used and the material type. Blue Fluorescent PLA has been my most challanging to get right at flat top area's. Its rather stringy no matter the temperature or retraction settings. Most ABS prints/rolls/colors are fine though.
